The most iconic non-Rookie Pele card is the 1970 Panini World Cup Mexico 70. And the rarest version of the 4 backs issued with this set is the Blue / Red back!
The Panini 1970 World Cup set was Panini’s first global World Cup album. Globally, Panini is most known for its sticker albums that fans collect and trade each World Cup and this is the BEST card from the inaugural year’s album.
There were 4 different backs issued. The three common backs were released in packets. But the fourth card – the uber-rare Red / Blue back – was only released with a subset of the Italian albums as an uncut sheet of 4 Red / Blue back cards per album (and not all albums had it). Besides this example, there have been 14 other examples of this card graded by PSA and just two graded higher.
Because these cards were released with the album and intended to be hand cut and glued in the album, all of the very few known examples to exist are hand cut and have back damage from being removed from the album.
